Skate or Die!

There are more reasons to get into skateboarding than you may think.

How can I get started?

Well, first you will need a skateboard! You can do this by shopping at any local skate shop, there are many located all around Hobart. The next step is to just get on your skateboard and ride! There is of course a lot more to it than that - but the main thing is to not give up! Skateboarding is not a hobby that you learn fast, but there are ways you can help yourself learn faster. There are skateboarding groups in Hobart anyone can join and go skate together and help each other learn new things, or if you’d rather skate alone there are thousands of youtube videos out there for any tips you need!

Where to go?

There are multiple parks all around Tasmania with all different types of obstacles. There are parks suited more for experienced skateboarders, and some more suited for beginners. Elizabeth College Skatepark and Rosny Skatepark are the two most popular skateparks in Hobart. Some other skateparks in Hobart are; Tolosa Park, Taroona, West Hobart, Dodges, and Risdon Vale, just to name a few.

Why should I start skateboarding?

To start off, to try something new and to have fun! Starting a new hobby like this is a great way to burn off steam and feel accomplishment as you improve your skill. Aside from having fun, skateboarding is a great form of exercise. You improve your balance, as well as work out your legs constantly while being on a skateboard. Skateboarding is also very aerobic, and you can easily work up a sweat while skating. It's pretty easy to lose weight when you are out pumping your board around all afternoon. It’s also a great way to meet new friends and learn perseverance. You are guaranteed to meet other people learning to skate and being around others will encourage you to keep at it and improve together.
